How is 'Children of Men' considered to be a post modern film?

Why is Children Of Men considered as a post modern movie

Children of Men is considered to be a postmodern film by the way that the movie Children of Men has a wide range of different genres such as Action, Adventure, War, Documentary, Science-Fiction, Drama, Road Movie. Children of Men is not a typical Science Fiction film, as it doesn’t use many of the conventions that we would use with the Sci Fi genre nowadays. Although it is set in the future (2027) and a lot of different and new technology are used in Children of Men. Genre is the next feature of the movie. The movie is a generic hybrid as it has more than one genre. The way in which Children of Men is a documentary style movie is the way that there are many shots taken in the movie as though it was a documentary. The way in which it can go under the war genre is that when the part with the camp at Bexhill appears it is related to the war which is clearly shown when you see the stranded in cages and see the army walking around with guns pushing people around and telling them to move. Another reason why Children of Men is considered as a Postmodern movie is because it has a lot of intertextual references such as the Guernica, Banksy Art, Picasso Art and the Pink pig which represents Pink Floyd which rewards your cultural capital. The first piece of Banksy art throughout the movie of Children of Men was the British Cops Kissing. His art is aimed to be a ironic representation of someone or something. Picasso’s art is also then shown in the movie. When you see the Guernica you may notice it takes up the whole screen as it is a very large painting. The Guernica represented the expression of horror from Picasso at the time of the Nazi bombing. These are known as intertextual references as you are spotting the art of posters etc from a music artist etc. Another reason to why Children of Men is a postmodern film is because the way it challenges the difference between high and popular culture. For example a piece of high culture would be Picasso and popular culture would be someone like banksy as he does graffiti and not paintings. Children of Men is also very satisfying towards some audiences for example adults. A lot of the narrative used in the movie Children of Men is conventional the way that it respects the conventional linear narrative structure. Music is another feature in Children of Men as in has classical pieces involved in the movie and there isn’t really any pop music which is used in the movie.

Some of the features used in Children of Men are similar with postmodern cinema. Most other features from movies, which are the same genre as Children of Men, which are not shown in Children of Men.
